Adopt-a-School
3e McKinney is so excited to have the opportunity to serve at the McKinney ISD LINC (Learning in a New Context) and DAEP (Discipline Alternative Education Placement) this coming year through our 3e McKinney Adopt-a-School Program.
LINC serves high school students and DAEP serves Elementary-12th grade students. These are very special campuses that serve very specific needs for the students that attend these schools. Many individuals feel a special calling to support these students, their families and the staffs. Because of the unique nature of these campuses we have chosen to open the opportunity to work with these students and their staffs to all of our partner church congregations.
3e McKinney will be having an informational night with LINC's principal, Harvey Oaxaca, and the new DAEP principal, Cynthia Morton. Sarah McLeod and Gerritt Huston have volunteered to serve as the 3e Adopt-a-School liaisons to coordinate the work at these two campuses and they are hosting an informational evening on August 2 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Crosspoint Church, 2101 S Stonebridge Dr. (The MISD Reach mentor training will be available from 7:00-7:45 that evening to anyone wishing to mentor any MISD student.)
Children fed. Children clothed. Children mentored. Children wholly loved.
This is the goal of 3eMcKinney’s Adopt-a-School program. We exist to feed, clothe, and mentor the economically disadvantaged children in McKinney’s Title 1 schools.
Help us reach a generation of children in McKinney who are in need of food, clothing, and mentoring.
History
In April 2009, the Adopt-a-School project began with a single pilot school. Today, the Adopt-a-School program has adopted all nine of McKinney’s Title 1 elementary schools. Nine elementary schools have now been adopted by 11 churches. LINC and DAEP at McKinney Learning Center have been adopted by 3e.
The Facts
- 4,932 students attend adopted schools.
- 581 teachers, administrators and aides staff these adopted schools.

In 2009
- 498 Adopt-a-School volunteers served these schools.
- 220 3eMcKinney volunteers served as mentors to the students in these schools.
- 6733 volunteer hours were given over to help Title 1 schools and their students.

- 500 shoe boxes were sent via Operation Christmas Child.
Reaching Out to Schools
The Adopt-a-School program reaches out to the teachers and staff at Title 1 schools by providing school supplies to teachers and students, and participating in and supporting
- McKinney’s ISD’s Reach Mentoring program.
- The local PTA/PTO organizations.
- Annual events and programs such as teacher appreciation and school beautification.
The church or organization that adopts a school appoints a volunteer to serve as liaison to coordinate the projects with the adopted school. The liaisons meet every month with 3eMcKinney staff to share ideas and team up on major 3eMcKinney Adopt-a-School projects.
The project plans for each school are developed in conjunction with the liaisons, 3eMcKinney staff, and the principals of the adopted schools. Adopt-a-School volunteers then build trusting relationships with teachers to create profound impacts on the lives of children.
Reaching Out to Children and Families
The Adopt-a School program reaches out to needy children and families in a variety of ways including:
- Providing Thanksgiving food baskets.
- Participating in social projects such as Christmas Care Angels, Food 4 Kids Backpack, Clothe a Child, and Adopt a Class.
- Providing Summer Camps/Programs for students in our adopted schools.
Getting Involved
So how do you get involved?
